Shiv Sena throws its weight behind Opp after verdict

Published on:

BJP’s NDA ally, Shiv Sena, on Thursday joined ranks with the Opposition to lash out at the BJP following the judgment in the 2G scam asking it to clarify to the nation why it had raised the 2G scam issue in a big way. This even as the NCP sought the resignation of the Modi Government and demanded the conduct of snap polls.

Sena MP Sanjay Raut wondered if the court verdict meant that "there was no scam in the first place". "Those who raised the allegation of scam are now ruling the country. It is up to them to clarify," Raut said, without naming any party. The Shiv Sena has been having an increasingly strained relation with the BJP and has expressed its intention of severing its ties with its oldest ally in the NDA.

For his part, NCP leader Tariq Anwar said, "it was one of the most embarrassing situations when Mr Modi and others charged UPA regime under Manmohan Singh of being most corrupt Government in Indian history".
