Shilpa raps media: Reports nothing but nonsense

Published on:

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on Thursday night termed media reports as “complete nonsense”, suggesting that she had also placed bets on an IPl match, even as a city court earlier in the day extended the police custody of three bookies, including a key bookie from New Delhi Ashwin Jayanarayan Agarwal alias Tinku, till June 10.

Contesting the media reports, quoting the Delhi Police sources that she had also placed bets on an IPl match played in Jaipur, Shilpa tweeted: “For those who care, my apparent involvement in betting is complete nonsense and I have never bet on any cricket match ever. Truth will prevail…won’t be saying anymore as the case is sub judice”.

The actress, who co-owns the Rajasthan Royals franchise, had earlier in the day hit out at the media reports that her husband Raj Kundra had confessed to betting on IPl match during his 11 hour questioning by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police on Wednesday.

“STOP PRESS literally! Getting on my nerves to c to wht extent the press wud go to make Headlines! Its annoying n distressing fr family to c news misconstrued n misreport., Pls spk 2 the Real officials in charge and get the REAl Story rather ure PAID (unreliable) sources,” the actress tweeted.

“Just to reiterate, we will do all it takes to reach to the bottom of this “spot-fixing case and be of complete help till that happens!,” she added.

Shilpa’s also outburst against the media, after Kundra expressed surprise over the media speculation about his possible arrest in the wake of his prolonged questioning

by the police in the National capital on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, after seeing merit in the prosecution’s plea for extension of custody of three bookies, Additional Metropolitan Magistrate AM Padwad remanded Tinku, and two other bookies — Kishore Badalani alias Keshu Pune and Paresh Bhatia in the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch sleuths till June 10.

Seeking the extension of the remand of Tinku and two other bookies, prosecutor Kiran Bendbhar told the court that the investigators wanted to subject the three bookies to

further custodial interrogations on certain aspects relating to the telephone conversations of the trio traced to Pakistan and Dubai, as also their alleged links with the underworld.

In another related development, the same magistrate’s court remanded two Pune bookies — Dinesh Sharma and Kishor Pablani, arrested in connection with alleged betting-spot fixing syndicate, in judicial custody till June 20.

Rejecting a plea by the police for the extension of the police custody of the two Pune bookies, Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Padwad observed that there was no satisfactory evidence with the Crime Branch indicating their links with bookies from either Pakistan or Dubai, involved in the IPl

spot-fixing scandal.
