Shia cleric blames fundamentalists for Pak Hindus' plight

Published on:

Support for the Pakistani Hindus who are not willing to go back to their country came from unexpected quarter when a prominent Shia cleric Allama Zameer Akhtar from Pakistan said that minority in his country were targeted because they do not have political clout.

“The minority in Pakistan are on the target of fundamental forces because they do not have political clout and have much say in the system,” he told The Pioneer here on Sunday. “I am not surprised if Hindus from Pakistan are now not willing to go back to their own country,” he said.

Akhtar is chairman of Mir Anees Academy, Karachi and president of Islamic Scholastic Institute, Pakistan and Director of Markaz-e-Uloom-e-Islamia, Pakistan.

“There were some anti-social organisations operating in Pakistan who do not want the minority communities to get into politics as they fear it could end their stronghold in the nation,” said Allama Zameer Akhtar, who hails from Karachi.

Even though Pakistan had several political parties but only two of them were most popular among Hindus, Christians and Shias including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for their better agenda for minority welfare.

“People belonging to minority communities support these two parties while rest of the parties were either not concerned or against equal rights of minorities,” said Allama.

The general elections are scheduled within a few month and political parties are toiling hard to gather votes of Hindus and Shias. The fundamentalist forces of Pakistan announced not to vote for a few parties (MQM and PPP). Allama said that’s what I want to tell, such forces, will never tolerate minorities increased political influence as which could make their positions stronger in the country. Fearing the same, such outfits have increased target killings in past couple of months.

Another cause for Minority carnage taking place in Pakistan was keeping the feeling of love and Brotherhood for neighbouring country ‘India’. “The fundamentalist forces get annoyed if anyone talks about establishment of peace and brotherhood with India. As a result they have been targeting, looting amd killing minorities,” he shared.

After facing such conditions and in search of a dignified and peaceful life, 80-odd Hindu families, like hundreds others, migrated to Delhi from Sindh province of Pakistan to escape persecution there. These 510 hapless Hindus from Pakistan are at present living in Bijwasan on the outskirts of the national Capital

Demanding Indian citizenship, Pakistani Hindus, who are currently staying in India, staged a protest outside the United Nations office in Delhi recently. Demanding either citizenship or allow them to stay in India, the hundreds of Pakistani Hindus are relentless in proving their point that they are in no mood to return to Pakistan.

Recently, All India Shia Personal law Board too demanded to issue long term visas to the people of Shia Community living in paskitan and they should be allowed to stay here until peace was established in Pakistan.
