Ahead of the crucial trust vote in Bihar, Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on Thursday launched a scathing attack against the Union Government over the Bihar development.
On a day of high drama in Bihar, Yadav held BJP responsible for the current political turmoil and accused it of trying to impose President’s Rule in the State. The JD(U) also announced its strategy for the Budget Session next week and indicated its plan to corner the Government over various issues, including the land Acquisition Ordinance.
“The BJP is behind it. Ever since we left the NDA, the BJP is looking at us as an enemy. We do not have any objection to that. We will fight, but fight an electoral battle. The Centre, which is suppose to govern as per the Constitution, has trampled upon democratic values. For all these days, the BJP was behind the curtain. Yesterday, they lifted the curtain. Tomorrow they (the BJP) will do something else. There is no harm in asking for a trust vote in 2-3 days or 48 hours, but not for this long time,” Yadav said during a Press conference at his New Delhi residence.
Yadav said that after losing the Delhi polls, the BJP has become “desperate” and “restless” and wants to impose President’s Rule in Bihar. He also accused the BJP of trying to lure JD(U) legislators and MlAs of its alliance partners.
The JD(U) leader also accused Governor KN Tripathi of being “biased” and acting on behalf of BJP. “He is holding a constitutional post and the Centre is responsible for this (to ensure that he follows rules),” he said. Yadav mentioned that the party also paraded 130 MlAs before the President and the Governor,” he said.
“We told him (Governor) that you first ask the Manjhi Government to prove majority and then read the Budget (address). Whoever passes the confidence motion, he should read their budget. Now, you (Governor) will read the (Manjhi Government’s) Budget address and then call for confidence motion,” Yadav said. He said that Manjhi has support of just 12 MlAs.
Talking about the next week Budgest Session, Yadav, who is a member of Rajya Sabha, said that he will certainly raise the issue of the land Acquisition Ordinance and oppose it tooth and nail.
“This is worse than the law passed by the British Raj in 1852,” Yadav said. The JD(U) said it will also attack the Government on various other issues in Parliament. In the last Parliament Session, with the Government not having majority in the Rajya Sabha, the Opposition cornered the Centre on various issues, including the re-conversions and controversial speeches by BJP MPs.
Earlier, addressing the media, Yadav lashed out at the Centre for allegedly suggesting construction of new dams in the Himalayas under the garb of rejuvenating Ganga. “In the garb of Namami Gange and Ganga Rejuvenation programme, the Government is planning to finish the Ganga in the Himalayas itself,” Yadav said, adding that he has written to the Prime Minister about the issue. Yadav stressed that haphazard construction activities were leading to massive deforestation, blasting, tunnel formation, mining crushing and will disrupt the delicate balance of Himalayan ecology.
