Shah to remain in Delhi to name NDA's VP pick

The BJP Parliamentary Board is expected to declare the name of the NDA candidate for Vice President in a couple of days with party president Amit Shah to stay put in the National Capital for two days.

BJP president Amit Shah, who is on a  110-day country-wide 'Vistrit Pravas' (expansion campaign) tour until September,  will be in Delhi  to finalise consultations on Vice-Presidential nominee before the Parliamentary Board including Prime Minister Narendra Modi  announces a decision on the issue.

The party will keep in mind that the NDA candidate should be having ability and deftness to carry on business of the upper house where Opposition has considerable strength even as the  BJP is set to drastically improve its prowess in the Rajya Sabha  after its recent victories in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.

As in Presidential poll on July 17, the BJP-led-NDA  is confident about a victory  in the Vice-Presidential poll , given its combined numbers in lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha that constitute the electoral college. The Vice-Presidential poll is on August 5.

The Opposition, including the Congress, has nominated former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi as its Vice-Presidential candidate.

It is speculated that since NDA's Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind is from Uttar Pradesh, the Vice-Presidential nominee may be from the South or even North-East. On Friday , Shah,  held meetings with the Delhi unit's core group and office-bearers at the NDMC Convention Centre here  as part of 'Vistrit Pravas' in the Delhi State.
