BJP president Amit Shah on Friday accused the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in Assam of allowing illegal immigrants from Bangladesh to enter the North-eastern State for vote bank politics, which threatened national security.
The BJP was the only party that did not compromise on national security for vote bank politics, Shah said while addressing a rally here.
He claimed that a State free of illegal immigrants was not possible under the Congress rule in Assam.
Shah, who arrived here on Friday morning, accused the Congress of entering a “tacit understanding” with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), and dared Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to talk openly with AIUDF chief Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal rather than have a secret understanding.
“These days the Congress and AIUDF are having good relations in Assam. So how can a party who is talking to AIUDF that supports Bangladeshi infiltration make Assam free of Bangladeshi infiltratorsIJ The Congress has allowed illegal infiltration from Bangladesh by keeping the Borders open for its vote bank politics and thereby threatened national security,” he added.
“We know that Assam is a frontal State having International Borders. Being a frontal State, it needs a patriotic Government, who does not compromise on national security for the vote bank politics,” said Shah while adding that only a BJP Government can ensure security to the people of Assam.
Shah also justified the Indo-Bangla land swap deal and said the agreement is often misinterpreted. However, in reality, this is going to end the illegal infiltration from Bangladesh to Assam.
The BJP president also highlighted the initiative like holding talks with the NSCN (IM) and extraditing Ulfa general secretary Anup Chetia to Assam and said that the Central Government led by the BJP is doing these for its commitment to develop Assam and other parts of the region.
“Before the lok Sabha polls, Modiji assured that he would take up steps to development the eastern region of the country. I am happy that the Prime Minister had not forgotten his promises about the region and taking up steps for Northeast’s development,” he added.
The BJP president also slammed the Congress-led Government in Assam for large scale corruptions and said that although Centre sends equal amount of funds to all the States, schemes are implemented in Assam only on papers.
He also dared Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to make public the accounts of amounts spend on different schemes in Assam in the last 15 years and said that the people of the State would understand how much corruption is going on in the State.
“If you want the schemes to be implemented on ground, you need a BJP Government, who can only ensure and corruption-free and transparent Government in Assam,” he added.
Newly appointed Assam BJP president and lok Sabha MP Sarbananda Sonowal said that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has offered Ajmal the post of Deputy Chief Minister so that they can together keep the BJP out of power in Assam in 2016 polls.
Both the Congress and AIUDF are supporters of Bangladeshi vote banks and that the two parties are planning to make Assam a part of grater Bangladesh due to its vote bank politics, Sonowal said while urging the people of Assam not to believe in the nasty campaign undertaken by the Congress and the AIUDF.
