Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a frontal attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah for planning the attack onTrinamool Congress youth wing leaders while they were visiting Tripura on Saturday.
Chief Minister "Biplab Deb does not have the audacity and courage to launch such attacks … I must say that the attackers were encouraged by Union Home Minister Amit Shah … he is behind the attack on our men,” Banerjee who went to see the two TMC student leaders who were flown in to Kolkata and were undergoing treatment in government-run SSKM Hospital said.
Student leaders Jaya Dutta and Sudip Raha were badly injured in the Saturday’s attack by alleged BJP workers who “attacked our men with brickbats, stones and guns while the police looked the other way,” Banerjee said adding “the police only implemented the plan that came from above.”
She alleged "the police not only remained silent spectators to the incident but they did not even offer a glass of water to the victims ... such is the brutality of these BJP men and the Government they are running."
Adding that the BJP Government in Tripura was run by a “band of goons” Banerjee alleged “they are also targeting Abhishek Banerjee,” Diamond Harbour MP and the Chief Minister’s nephew. Junior Banerjee’s cavalcade too was attacked a few days ago when he was in Tripura.
“Fortunately he was in a bullet proof vehicle otherwise he could have been seriously injured by the bricks thrown by the BJP goons,” the Chief Minister said adding the TMC MP’s life was under threat from the BJP.
“I have reports the BJP had purchased five air tickets to Agartala for five criminals who were following him … they seated around Abhishek and watched him … It seems that his life is under threat,” Banerjee said adding the “BJP is running a Government of criminals in Tripura.”
Banerjee said “It is clear to the entire country that the BJP is running an anarchic government in Tripura, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and wherever they are in power… you have seen how our MPs were stopped from entering Assam when they went there to protest against the NRC … our MPs were harassed when they went to UP to stand by the family of the Hathras rape victim … and now they are attacking and preventing the TMC leaders from going to Tripura … but I must tell them that the people of that state are watching everything … they will give a befitting reply … tomorrow we will take Tripura from the BJP come what may.”
She said “The BJP had only one and a half years’ time left for them … In 2023 elections they will be out of power.”
