Sex scandal: JD(S) MlA seeks quashing of FIR

Kerala’s former Transport Minister Jose Thettayil, an lDF MlA of the Janata Dal(S), on Thursday submitted a plea in the High Court seeking cancellation of the FIR registered against him on the basis of a complaint filed by a 30-year-old woman that he had sexually abused her several times. Thettayil has been charged with rape, as per the FIR.

The MlA said in the petition that no rape had taken place as mentioned in the complaint lodged by the woman on the basis of which the FIR was registered at a court in Aluva near Kochi. He submitted before the High Court that the case against him was the result of a political conspiracy in which certain prominent leaders of the ruling parties were involved.

Stating that the complaint of the woman was unfounded, Thettayil said that no rape had occurred as she had told the police. The woman had said that he had raped her promising to permit the marriage between her and his son which did not have any element of credibility, he said, adding that the police had been harassing him unnecessarily ever since they got the complaint.

Pointing out that the police had been acting with bias on the complaint of the woman, Thettayil, who had gone into hiding 11 days back, said they had not cared to initiate a case against her who had shot and distributed videos of certain bedroom scenes for producing and propagating pornography under the IT Act.

The 30-year-old woman, a resident of Manjapra in the Angamaly constituency which Thettayil represented, had on June 23 lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police (Rural), Aluva saying that Thettayil and his son Adarsh (26) had been sexually abusing her for the past two years. The High Court is likely to take up Thettayil’s plea on Friday.
