If one were to go by the versions of senior BJP leaders in Bengal then the multi-crore Saradha scam could just have started taking its toll on the organisational set up of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
According to BJP’s central observer for Bengal Siddharth Nath Singh a number of Trinamool MPs and MlAs were willing to join the saffron outfit in the wake of the fast falling popularity graph of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In an exclusive interview to Bangla news channel ABP Ananda, Singh said, “We do not deny the fact that a sizeable number of senior Trinamool leaders, who took part in throwing out the CPI(M) from Bengal but who are not happy with the state of affairs in the Trinamool, have been contacting us.”
On whether these people include the leaders whose names have figured in the chit fund scam, Singh said his party would reserve its right to induct people with clean image only. “No one with any kind of chit fund connection is welcome,” he said. Incidentally, State BJP president Rahul Sinha had also said earlier that a number of Trinamool leaders had contacted him in the recent months.
When the BJP leader was reminded of bad words being used against his party leadrs by the Trinamool parliamentarians he said “the Trinamool carries its own DNA while I carry the DNA of lal Bahadur Shastri.” Singh is the grandson of India’s second Prime Minister.
On the suceptibiltiy of political waves like the one that Prime Minister Narendra Modi roared to power Singh said there were waves that depended on performance and good governance and not caste or communal politics. “We have proved that in Gujarat where Modiji left a 15-year-old Government. We have also proved that in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.”
On who would be the BJP’s chief Ministerial candidate if it at all came to power in 2016 Singh said “that will not be a problem as in the case of Haryana and Maharashtra” adding “for now the BJP is concentrating on membership drive and winning the elections.”
