Several inmates injured in brawl inside Rohini jail

Major chaos was witnessed in Rohini jail on Wednesday when over 50 prisoners were injured in a brawl among them, police said on Thursday. Sources said they started shouting slogans as two inmates, who are said to be the ring leaders of the prisoners, were forced to enter barrack number 6 of the jail in the evening when they resisted.

According to a senior police official, at 7 pm on Wednesday, when all the prisoners are counted and asked to get into the respective barrack, two inmates identified as Nitin, alias Appu, and his friend Shiva Suri told the jail warden that they would enter later. Appu has been in jail since the last year for committing a double-murder.

“ When the warden protested and pushed the duo inside the barrack, Appu and Suri got into a scuffle with him. Immediately other security officials were called and the duo were pushed in the barrack,” said the official.

On entering the jail premises, the two criminals started instigating the other inmates and said that they needed to protest against the wrong that had happened to them. “Soon some of the prisoners started taking out blades and started cutting themselves and shouting slogans. Security officials in huge numbers came to the spot and tried to normalize the situation,” said the official.

After normalising the situation, the 52 injured prisoners were taken to Ambedkar hospital for treatment and were returned back to the jail soon.
