Seven Kathak students hospitalised after having hostel food

Seven students, including four girls, of a dance institute fell sick allegedly after eating food at their hostel. The students of Kathak Kendra in GTB Nagar were admitted in Bara Hindu Rao Hospital on Wednesday night after symptoms of food poisoning were noticed, Dr RB Mittal, medical superintendent of the hospital said on Thursday. Six of the students were now stable while the seventh one is still under observation.

“Six of them are absolutely out of danger and have been shifted to the nursing home. They would be discharged by Friday evening. However, one of them is still sick and has to be kept under observation till his condition improves,” said Mittal.

He said that all the students were above 25 years of age. “If one goes by the symptoms, the most likely reason is food poisoning due to consumption of contaminated food. But it would take some time to ascertain the cause,” Mittal said.

“For last couple of days, several of us have been having stomach problems. We ignored thinking that it might be due to season change, but on Wednesday the situation of some students deteriorated,” the student added.
