Train are being escorted by women RPF team ‘Meri Saheli’ for ensuring security of women travelling alone, helping women in case of any problem and rescuing children. As part of its continuous efforts in this direction to spread the message of women’s security among the public, under the guidance of IG-cum- Principal Chief Security Commissioner (PCSC) AN Sinha a team of 24 RPF officers and staff took part in the 38th Indira Marathon organised by the Sports department of Uttar Pradesh in Prayagraj on Sunday. This RPF Team comprised one assistant commandant, three inspectors, five sub- inspectors and 15 staff, including three women RPF staff.
During the run the RPF carried the messages “Let us come together to ensure safe rail travel for women,” “Our aim making rail travel safer for women” etc. The participation in the marathon is aimed at promoting the cause of safe and secured travel on trains for women.
It is for creating public awareness about various initiatives of RPF aimed at promoting women’s safety and security. In particular attention was focused on the ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative. In 2023 RPF NCR displayed remarkable performance by rescuing 17 passengers from perilous situations near moving trains. Under operation Nanhe Farishte RPF NCR rescued 738 unaccompanied children at risk in stations and trains, preventing them from becoming victims of child abuse. RPF/North Central Railway marathon team also carried the message of the railway helpline number 139. Passengers can call on the helpline number while on travel if they encounter any security-related issues. On receiving such complaints on the helpline, RPF will immediately attend the train at the nearest station and address the issue.
Under the guidance of AN Sinha, IG-cum-PCSC all three divisions of NCR are doing everything possible to ensure security of the travelling public in general and women’s security in particular. Women RPF personnel deployed across NCR are attending to women passengers, elderly women, and children addressing their security-related issues to ensure safe rail travel for them.
