Questioning the very logic behind lK Advani’s statement that the BJP should rope in new parties into the NDA led by it, the Shiv Sena on Monday wondered as to where the new allies would come from. The Sena simultaneously asked its long-time senior saffron ally, BJP, to identify its allies at the national level to take on the Congress-led UPA in the 2014 polls.
In an editorial published in its official mouthpiece “Saamana”, the Sena took a strong exception to Advani’s comment and came up with posers to the new BJP leadership that has anointed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the party’s 2014 poll campaign in-charge.
“Responding to an advice that he received from (Mohan) Bhagwat that he play the role of a guide to the BJP, Advani said “BJP needs to forge new friendships”, but where are these new friendsIJ New friends are not like seasonal crops that you sow seeds and reap a harvest. Friends do not grow like trees; they have to be nurtured, grown with water fertilizers and nursed. How can one get new friends if you strike at the roots and branches of the very tree which provided shelter, fruits, flowers and fragranceIJ”.
