The Shiv Sena on Monday demanded the arrest of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik on his return from abroad. On a day he deferred his return to Mumbai, Sena stepped up his attack on Naik, by charging the latter with indulging in anti-national activities and demanding that he be arrested on his return to India. In an editorial published in its official mouth-piece Saamana: “From his religious speeches, it becomes clear that his intention is to disturb peace in Maharashtra and elsewhere in India, create anarchy and usher in Islamic state in the country. That being the case, we cannot sit quietly”. Charging that the Government was adopting “dual yardsticks” while dealing with right-wing Sanathana Sanstha and Zakir’s Islamic Research Foundation, the Sena said: “While on one hand, the Government is harassing Sanathana Sanstha, on the other it is dealing with Naik with kid gloves.
