The Shiv Sena activists on Wednesday vandalised a branch office of the IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company at Camp area in Pune, in protest against the delay in settling the claims of crop damage caused to them during the recent unseasonal rains.

The Sena activists, led by the party’s Pune unit chief Sanjay More, barged into the branch office of IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company located at Mangaldas Road in the Cantonment area at 11 am and raised vociferous slogans against the delay in settling the insurance claims of the farmers affected by the unseasonal rains.

Sena activists, who were carrying saffron flags with them, went on a rampage inside the insurance company’s office, by smashing the window panes glass dividers, destroying the office furniture and cabins.

The Shiv Sena activists’ rampage at the IFFCO Tokio’s branch office came a day after Sena president Uddhav Thackeray warned the insurance company against delaying settling claims of farmers affected by the heavy unseasonal rains across the State.

Talking to media persons, More said: “This is just the beginning. We will stage similar protests in typical Sena style at other insurance company offices in Pune and Mumbai. It is in the interest of the various companies that they settle the insurance claims of the farmers as quickly as possible”.

More said that the Sena had written letters to various insurance companies, including IFFCO Tokio and Bajaj Allianz, asking them to settle the farmers’ insurance claims quickly. “We are confident that our today’s will go as a strong message to various insurance companies that the Sena means business. We will not tolerate any delay on the part of insurance companies in settling the farmers’ insurance claims,” the Pune Sena unit chief said.
