As tension prevails in Tamil Nadu over the critical condition of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, security has been beefed up in Karnataka.

After the ugly violence recently over Cauvery, the police in Bengaluru is not taking any chances. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the security has been beefed up in border areas of Karnataka-Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters in Tumakuru city on Monday, Parameshwara said that KSRP platoons have been deployed to the border areas and forces have been deployed to areas with Tamil population. He said Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka was in constant touch with the DGP of Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has temporarily suspended bus services to Tamil Nadu. According to KSRTC officials all the 450 services to Tamil Nadu are being run only till Attibele, bordering Tamil Nadu.

“It is a temporary measure and we are closely watching what is happening in Tamil Nadu," said a KSRTC official.

Services from Mysuru to different parts of Tamil Nadu have also been suspended. “KSRTC buses are not going beyond the border in Chamarajanagar for the time being,” KSRTC's Mysuru Rural Divisional Controller M. Mahesh told the media.

Mahesh said a total of 70 KSRTC buses and 39 Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses ply between Mysuru and different destinations in Tamil Nadu every day.

In Bengaluru with large concentration of Tamil population and the tension prevailing in Tamil Nadu over Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's health, the police have enhanced security all along.

“There has been no untoward incident till now. This is just a preventive measure and people don't have to panic,” said a senior police officer.
