The Hyderabad Metro Rail project has taken a major step forward with the successful test-run on Miyapur to Kukatpally section. It was an exciting view for the people on the busy roads of Kukatpally to see Metro train with three bogies making a dramatic appearance on the elevated line.
About 4.4 kms long route is the second section of the massive Metro project in Hyderabad to be technically ready for the operations. Earlier, a successful test-run was conducted on 8.4 kms long section between Nagole and Mettuguda.
The Metro rail with three bogies was brought on to the tracks from Miyapur depot after the l&T Metro Rail Managing Director VB Gadgil and others offered prayers. Engineers from the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem, who is the supplier of the rolling stocks for the project, were also present on the occasion.
“With this we have crossed an important milestone in the implementation of the project and we are moving rapidly towards realising the dream of having a world class Metro Rail project in Hyderabad,” said Gadgil.
During the test-run, the Metro covered the four stations of Miyapur, JNT University, Kukatpally and Housing Board colony at a speed of 30 kms per hour. This was one of the fourteen three bogie trains which are ready at the Miyapur depot for deployment. Similarly, fourteen trains with three bogies each will also be taken for the test-run on Nagaole and Mettuguda sections. Both these sections are at the opposite end of Nagole-Raidurg corridor, one of the three and the longest corridor of Hyderabad Metro project.
Originally, Nagole-Miyapur section was to be opened for commercial operations in March but it was delayed by a few months as it was extended till Secunderabad to make the phase viable.
During the test-run, the electricity supply to the project from a 32 KV sub-station was also tested successfully. Earlier, the Electrical Inspector General had given his nod to make the section operational.
Propulsion system, break system, electromagnetic compatibility, lighting, passenger information system, air conditioning, doors and emergency breaks were among the other system which were tested.
