The State Election Commission on Sunday recommended cancellation of mayoral elections 2013. “We have sent a recommendation — for cancelling the polls for the Mayor’s chair — to the Governor,” said MK Jha, secretary of the SEC.
The decision was taken following examination of evidence collected from various sources in the cash-for-vote fiasco. On April 7, a day before elections, a huge amount of cash was recovered from a hotel. It was alleged to be used for influencing mayoral elections. The incident brought incumbent mayor Rama Khalkho under scrutiny since she was backed by the Congress, the party holding meetings in that hotel. PNS
