A former DGP rank official ended his life by shooting himself in the right temple in Noida's Sector 33 on Monday morning. The victim had fired the bullet from point blank range and died on the spot. The retired DG was identified as Cl Wasan, an UP cadre IPS, who had joined services in 1962 and retired as Director General of CB-CID of Uttar Pradesh Police in 1993. A suicide note has been found in which he had disclosed that he is killing himself due to 'searing pain' in his body.

Police sources said that the incident was reported around 9.30 am when Usha Wasan (74), wife of Cl Wasan (78), heard firing of a bullet inside the house. She along with her daughter-in-law had rushed inside and found Wasan lying in a pool of blood. They immediately called his elder son, Sameer, and the former DG was rushed to the Kailash Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Wasan had gone for his morning walk before shooting himself.

Police said Wasan had said he was ailing since five months and was under treatment at Kailash Hospital. In the suicide note Wasan said he loved his family but was ending his life due to intolerable pain. “Though we have got the suicide note but investigations are on. We have seized the revolver and are questioning the victim's family. We have also sent the body for a post-mortem,” said Vishwajeet Shriwastav, DSP of Noida.

Wasan, an IPS of UP cadre, had worked for UP Police on various ranks, including IG and DG. He was also associated with local welfare bodies after retirement. His wife is a social activist. His elder son Sameer Wasan works as distributor in Noida and lives with his parents while younger son, Sunny Wasan, stays in london. His wife and daughter-in-law were present in the house when the incident took place.
