Scores of farmers from Uttarakhand and UP joined the protesting farmers at Ghazipur border (UP Gate) against the Centre’s new farm laws on Tuesday. Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, alleged that the Government is forcibly stopping the farmers coming to participate in the movement.
He said if the farmers coming to join the movement were stopped then all the roads would be blocked. Tikait said that farmers have been engaged in the movement for a long time.
“No matter how long the movement is, the farmers will not move away from here, but farmers from other cities are also reaching the movement but the government wants to weaken the movement, so now farmers are being stopped from reaching the protest. By doing this, the government is working to provoke the farmers, but our clear warning is that if the farmers are prevented from coming to Delhi in this way, then the farmers standing on the Delhi border will protest by blocking all roads,” said Tikait.
He added some farmers leaders in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand have been unnecessarily stopped by the administration there. After the news of the farmers being stopped in Mussoorie, the farmers became furious and tried to remove the barricading at the UP gate in protest, later the police officers intervened and diffused the situation. On the UP Gate, where the farmers are going on a sit-in demonstration, other rustic artists are encouraging the agitating farmers by singing ragani.
