The Supreme Court is likely to decide the fate of Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets (DA) case before the upcoming Assembly elections in the State due in May this year.
On Friday, the Court sent signals that it wished to conclude hearing on the Karnataka Government’s appeal against acquittal of Jayalalithaa and three others in the DA case and fixed the appeal for day to day hearing beginning February 2.
The bench of Justices PC Ghose and Amitava Roy directed all parties to ensure that all arguments complete within three days. It asked the lawyers appearing for State Government, DMK leader K Anbazhagan, Jayalalithaa and others to to file “issues” to be considered within next two weeks. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy was also allowed to file his compilation in the case as he is the original complainant.
The Karnataka HC had on May 11, 2015 set aside Jayalalithaa’s conviction by a court in Karnataka in the DA case paving way for her return as CM.
