The Supreme Court on Friday sought a report from the Centre on the ground situation prevailing in Jammu & Kashmir after a political outfit in the State filed a PIl alleging that curfew in the State had deprived even sick persons from visiting hospitals. It had sought to impose Governor’s rule in the State. Dealing with a petition filed by J&K National Panthers Party, the Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur asked Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar to give a report on the situation prevailing on ground and whether there was any truth in the sugges-tion that life of citizens got paraly-sed. Senior advocate Bhim Singh, appearing for the political outfit, argued that since he hailed from the State, citizens from the curfew-affected areas had told him how they are deprived of food, medici-nes, hospital care and daily provisions during the 21-day curfew. The Bench decided to address the issue of citizens but warned Singh, “We will call for a report but if we come to the co-nclusion that you simply want to take political mileage from filing this petition, we will take a serio-us view against you (petitioner).” The Bench observed that situa-tion in State is hard to assess as ground situation can change within hours.
