SC pats Bassi's back for NBW against ex-UB Group director

After being hauled for contempt, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi received a pat on the back from the Supreme Court on Monday for a job well done after he ensured execution of a non-bailable warrant on a former Director of a liquidated company belonging to Vijay Mallya’s UB Group.

The Court had summoned the Delhi top cop upset by the casual approach of the Delhi Police in failing to execute the warrant on the accused person. The former Director was accused by an investor who lost his life's savings worth Rs55,000 that he invested in the company McDowell Krest Finance limited in 1996. In January 2004, the company went into liquidation and the investor Gandharb Singh Bhadwal approached the Court for redeeming his deposit.

An affidavit filed by Bassi on Monday showed compliance of the court’s order issuing NBW against Krishna Murthy. Appearing for police, ASG Maninder Singh and advocate R Balasubramanium submitted that necessary instructions have been given to concerned police officers to get warrants issued by the relevant courts.
