SC orders AIIMS to examine teen rape survivor seeking abortion

Published on:

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to examine a 13-year old rape survivor from Delhi on Saturday before examining her petition seeking abortion of her 22 week foetus on Monday.

The Bench directed the girl's lawyer Divyesh Pratap Chaudhary to approach AIIMS for medical examination and asked the hospital to submit a report on the feasibility of abortion by Monday. The petition filed by the girl's mother claimed she did not have physical or mental maturity to bear the child and allowing pregnancy will affect her studies and future career.
