SAV Satya Murty (59), an electronics and instrumentation specialist recognised by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has been appointed as the Director of Indira Gandhi Centre For Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, one of the premier nuclear energy research establishments in the country. He will take over from incumbent PR Vasu Deva Rao who retires on September 1, 2015.
Murty, a Homi Bhaba awardee, led the team of engineers which set up the instrumentation and control system of the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor coming up at Kalpakkam. He is also the brain behind Wireless Sensor Networks in nuclear reactors. “Wireless Sensor Networks in nuclear reactors help us to measure and identify some of the crucial parameters like temperature and pressure inside the reactors through wireless mode. Works are going on under the guidance of Murty to standardise this process in all reactors,” said a spokesman of the IGCAR.
