A popular BJP MlA from Jammu West Assembly seat Sat Sharma was unanimously elected as State BJP chief by the members of the State executive here on Sunday.

National vice-president Shyam Jaju, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh along with senior State BJP leaders were present on the occasion.

Sharma replaces sitting BJP MP from Jammu-Poonch seat Jugal Kishore Sharma.

The new State Chief is assuming charge of the party ahead of the local bodies elections scheduled to take place between March-April 2016.

He won the 2014 Assembly polls with record margin of over 50,000 votes.

Sharma has previously served as vice-president of the party and also played key role in BJP’s victory march in ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (lAHDC) polls.

In his brief message to the party workers Sat Sharma said he would work hard to strengthen the party at the grass roots. He said my top priority would be ensuring victory of the party in the civic body polls in the State.

Sat Sharma had also played significant role in bringing back dead body of Indian farmer Chamel Singh, murdered inside Pak jail.

It is expected that as State BJP Chief he would be able to exercise his clout to ensure adequate compensation for the kin of Chamel Singh.
