A sarpanch was killed in cold blood by unidentified terrorists after they barged inside his home and opened indiscriminate firing in Khonmoh area of Srinagar late Wednesday evening.
The elected public representative has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Bhat.
According to a police spokesman the terror incident was reported around 6.50 p.m on wednesday.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that terrorists barged in to the house of Sameer Bhat and targeted him from a very close range.
Critically injured Bhat was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his fatal injuries.
The police authorities have registered a FIR and launched investigations in the case.
