Both the BJP and the CPI(M) on Monday launched a frontal attack against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleging that her Government was sunken neck deep in corruption and crime.
While BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi made a caustic forecast for Banerjee saying that her alleged links with Saradha which had made her the ‘queen of corruption’ would soon turn out to be her Waterloo, while senior CPI(M) leader Gautam Deb said, “Mamata knows everything about Saradha scam,” adding “she will soon go to jail.”
Naqvi told mediapersons that Banerjee who “had come to power as the daughter of revolution has turned into a corruption queen” because of her sustained “patronisation of the criminals and the corrupt.”
Naqvi’s no-holds-barred attack against Banerjee came within 24 hours of similar hard-hitting speech from party president Amit Shah who gave a clarion call from an election rally in Kolkata to “pull down the belligerent and corrupt” Trinamool Government.
“Mamata Banerjee had come to power and generated high hopes by fighting hard against the communists. The she was called the symbol of revolution. But today, she has been exposed for her sustained patronisation of the criminal and the corrupt,” Naqvi said, adding “even the genuine Trinamool workers were demoralised by the criminal elements in her party.”
Banerjee started as the “daughter of the revolution but is currently seen as the corruption queen” he said and added “soon her alleged links with the Saradha affairs will turn out to be her Waterloo.”
In a brainstorming session on Sunday attended by Shah, the State BJP had decided to make Saradha as its main poll plank in the coming elections including the Assembly polls in 2014.
As regards the Trinamool's allegations that the BJP was using CBI as its tool against it, Naqvi said, “Trinamool is conducting itself like the B team of the Congress and they too think on the same line.” The people of Bengal had decided to throw them out of power in 2016 he added.
