Sanskrit revived in Assam legislative Assembly

At a time when the ancient languages like Sanskrit are going into oblivion, three BJP legislators in Assam on Wednesday revived the classical language by taking their oath in the House in Sanskrit.

BJP legislators Angoorlata Deka, Ashok Sarma and Bimal Borah took everyone by surprise when they sought permission from pro-tem Speaker of the Assam legislative Assembly Phani Bhushan Choudhury, who was administering the oath to the members of the House, and subsequently took their oath in Sanskrit.

Angoorlata Deka, Ashok Sarma and Bimal Borah have contested the Assam legislative Assembly elections held in April this year for the first time and won surprising everyone. While actor-turned-politician Angoorlata defeated senior Congress leader and former Assam Minister Goutam Bora in the latter's turf Batadraba, Sarma defeated his Congress rival Pradyut Kumar Bhuyan in Nalbari constituency. Bimal Borah defeated senior Congressman and Assam Environment and Forest Minister Atuwa Munda in Tingkhong constituency.

Deka's name was in headlines a few days back when someone on social media termed her as a 'hot MlA' and Bollywood filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma allegedly passed some 'sexist' comments on her photographs shared by someone on social media.

Deka took permission from pro-tem Speaker to take  oath in Sanskrit. When the Speaker granted permission, she read it out of a paper.
