The arrest of Samir Bhujbal by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the two money laundering cases registered against Maharashtra’s former PWD Minister Chaggan Bhujbal and his family members on Tuesday sparked violent protests in Bhujbals’ home district of Nashik in north Maharashtra, even as the NCP MP was remanded in the agency’s custody till February 8.
Samir, nephew of Chhagan Bhujbal, was placed under arrest on Monday night, after he was questioned for more than six hours by the ED officials at their Ballard Pier office. Samir was produced before Special Judge P R Bhavke, who remanded the NCP MP to ED’s custody till February 8.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya welcomed the arrest. “Sameer Bhujbal has been arrested by ED. Pankaj Bhujbal to follow,” Somaiya said.
