Salman Khan’s lawyer Amit Desai on Thursday sought to demolish the very evidence produced by the Prosecution in the 2002 hit-and-run case trial, by pinpointing several flaws in it and, among other things, demanding to know as to why the police had not recorded the statement of the actor’s family driver Ashok Singh despite having “interrogated” the latter.
Contesting the evidence adduced by the Prosecution —based on which the trial court convicted Salman and sentenced him to five-year jail term in the hit-and-run case on May 6, Desai also wanted to know as to the investigators had not prepared any panchnama of a search conducted on Salman’s residence and Gymnasium soon after the incident.
Appearing for Salman in the Bombay High Court hearing the actor’s appeal against his conviction and five-year jail term, Desai contended that several questions relating to the investigations in the case remained unanswered, even after the long-drawn trial.
Desai said that among the questions which remained unanswered were: Why were the injured taken to the Bhabha Hospital and not the Holy Family hospital which was just adjacent the roadIJ How come there was no facility in the Bhabha Hospital to draw blood despite the fact it has an ICUIJ Why did the investigators not do a panchanama when they searched the actor’s residence soon after the incidentIJ. Why was Ashok Singh’s statement not recorded even after he was “interrogatedIJ Why did the trial court not examine singer Kamaal Khan who was travelling travelling in the actor’s car at the time of mishapIJ
