Saima Wazed, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter and a well-known mental health expert, has been nominated as the next regional director of the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia region (SEARO). She replaces current SEARO Regional Director, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh from India who held the post for the last ten years, winning two terms.
Dr Shambhu Prasad Acharya, a senior WHO official, was the other candidate. He was nominated by Nepal.
