Sahara Group Chairman Subrata Roy Sahara evaded arrest on Thursday as a team of Uttar Pradesh police landed at his lucknow residence to execute Supreme Court’s non-bailable warrant before March 4.
Roy remained in touch with his lawyers and filed an application in apex court to recall the NBW. He offered unconditional apology to the Court and requested the SC to accommodate his request to remain beside his ailing mother.
Armed with the NBW, a team of UP Police led by Circle Officer, Gomti Nagar arrived at the Sahara Shahar residence of Roy a little after 4 pm Thursday. “We are here to execute the NBW issued by the Supreme Court,” said Circle Officer VS Mishra, who began searching the property sprawling across 270 acres.
SHO Gomti Nagar, who was part of the team confirmed, that the police conducted extensive search but Roy could not be found. “We have searched the premises. We have not found him there,” said SHO Ajit Singh Chauhan, while coming out of the residence.
Another official in the team confirmed that Roy’s ailing mother and doctors were spotted in the house ,but Roy was not present. The team had previously searched Sahara Hospital to rule out Roy’s presence. In the Supreme Court on Wednesday, Roy’s lawyers had said it was his ailing mother’s wish that Roy “held her hand” as she is 92 years and on her deathbed.
The fresh application moved by Roy in apex court by his lawyers reiterated the ground for his absence offering unconditional apology for his absence that was neither “intentional” nor “deliberate”. Admitting that Roy had an error of judgment to choose being beside his ailing mother on her deathbed over his presence in Court on Wednesday, Roy appealed once again to the Court to recall the NBW order of Wednesday in order to allow him fulfill his dying mother’s wish to be at his side. The application is likely to be mentioned in apex court on Friday.
