BJP leader and former television actress Rupa Ganguly who played the famed role of ‘Draupadi’ in the epic serial ‘Mahabharat’ was on Tuesday nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
She has been nominated by President Pranab Mukherjee to the seat vacated by cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned recently from the BJP to make forays in the Punjab Assembly election due early next year.
The 49-year-old Ganguly had recently contested the West Bengal Assembly elections this year on BJP ticket but failed to get elected in her poll debut. Her aggressive poll campaigning where she confronted and challenged ruling TMC members was noted by the party leadership.
