RSS demands primary edu in mother tongue

Right wing organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has recommended to make primary education mandatory in mother tongue. Talking to reporters at Ahmedabad on Monday, RSS Prant Sanghchalak for Gujarat Mukesh Malkan said that according to resolutions passed at the just concluded three-day conclave of the Sangh in Nagpur, the Government should make yoga a part of the curriculum and principle of “one temple, one well and one crematorium” be followed by Hindus across the country.

Appealing to karyakartas (volunteers) to work for an equitable Hindu community, Malkan said that RSS workers have done a lot of good work and come a long way and now they must continue to work to end contradictions in the Hindu society, if any.

The calculated move by the Sangh think tank is seen as to reach out and bring under its fold those who generally perceive it to be dominated by upper caste. RSS has already seen a jump of 25 per cent in its organisational reach since 2012. As of today, it has 51,330 shakhas operating at 33,222 places. “This is a significant step forward for RSS,” he added.

The RSS has called upon the Union and State Governments to make it mandatory to impart education in the mother tongue or in any constitutionally recognised State language. He further said that the RSS has urged the Government to use Indian languages in education, administration and delivery of justice. However, he clarified that RSS would not oppose learning any foreign language.

According to him, the child is most comfortable in the mother tongue and it is the language it understands the best, as compared to foreign language. And for natural learning and proper understanding of our culture, the education, particularly at the elementary level, should be either in the mother tongue or any language recognised by our Constitution,” he opined.
