RSS chief meets Sankara Mutt's seer on NaMo?

Published on:

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat called on Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi, the 69th pontiff of the Sankara Mutt at Kancheepuram on Wednesday.

Bhagwat had lengthy discussion with the pontiff and his junior Vijayendra Saraswathi. Though the Mutt authorities and RSS office refused to divulge details of the discussions, it may be noted that Bhagwat called on the seer following the latter’s endorsement of Narendra Modi for the prime ministerial post.

In an interview to a private TV channel, Kanchi Sankaracharya had said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is the apt person to be the Prime Minister of the country.

This is the first time a Hindu Mutt had made an announcement like this. The RSS chief’s visit to the Kanchi Mutt assumes significance in the backdrop of charges by various Hindu functionaries in Tamil Nadu that Hindu leaders and activists in the State are being selectively murdered by terrorist groups.
