Rs40 lakh notes showered on folk singers

Published on:

One more incident of showering currency notes came to light in Gujarat as more than Rs40 lakh showered on folk singers in Navsari district in the southern part of the State during a folk music program organised by a community.

The program was organised by the Shri Gurjar Kahatriya Kadia Samaj. As the folk singers Farida Mir and Mayabhai Ahir created atmosphere by their art of singing, the elated members of the community started showering Rs20 and Rs10 currency notes on them. After couple of hours the figure crossed Rs40 lakh. Money showered on the singers collected later and would be used for social cause.

Similar incident came to light in the first week of December in North Gujarat where newly introduced Rs2,000 denomination currency notes were showered on folk singer Kirtidan Gadhavi. He was performing at Banaskantha district at Mukteshwer Mahadev temple near Palanpur town.

Such functions organised in rural parts of Gujarat, especially to collect funds for charity works and construction of religious places. But in wake of demonetisation and its side effects including shortage of cash, people are curious how the organisers and participants are managing such a huge amount of money in cash.
