Around Rs 23 lakh went missing from a cash van under mysterious circumstances in Central Delhi’s Paharganj area on Tuesday evening.
The incident took place around 6:15 pm when a private firm-owned cash van reached the Central Bank ATM in Paharganj. “As few staff members went inside to refill the ATM, those guarding the van also went around and returned to find Rs 23 lakh stolen from the van,” said a police official.
The van had Rs 87 lakh cash on Tuesday and reached the Central Bank ATM after refilling a few ATM machines around Central Delhi.
Five staff members of the van told police that they deposited Rs 15 lakh at the Paharganj ATM, after which, a balance of Rs 23 lakh should have been there in the van, which was found missing when they returned to the vehicle.
