The wish of sugarcane farmers has been finally fulfilled. 13 crore rupees have been received for farmers who are yearning for the payment of arrears, which will be deposited in the accounts of the farmers from Monday.
Due to non-payment in time, the farmers were not interested in the sugarcane crop. This is the reason that the area kept decreasing continuously. Sugarcane acreage has been reduced by almost half in the last five years. Along with the payment, the sugar mill is also being repaired. The next crushing session will start running.
Aligarh's land is suitable for sugarcane production. Apart from the Saatha sugar mill, Ladhaua mill was also operational, which is now closed. Good harvests and close proximity attracted farmers to sugarcane. When the facilities started to go away, the farmers stopped taking interest in sugarcane.
There was no payment on time. Looking at the figures, the sugarcane acreage was 10735 hectares in 2015-16, then the yield was 616 quintals per hectare. Area decreased to 8898 hectare in 2018-19, but yield was 799.32 quintal per hectare. That is, 7116798.36 quintal cane. The farmers have reduced the acreage during this crushing season. Sown in 5934 hectares.
30 thousand quintals of sugar:
The farmers depend on the Saath sugar mill. The old mill is unable to run. Intermittent crushing occurred in the previous session. Sugarcane was later sent to other districts. The crushing season of the sugar mill started on November 29,2019. By 15 February, the mill was closed after crushing three lakh quintals of sugarcane. A total of 30 thousand quintals of sugar was produced by crushing a total of four lakh quintals of sugarcane. Payment also got stuck. Now 13 crore rupees have been sent for four and a half thousand farmers.
District sugarcane officer Dr. Subhash Yadav says that about 13 crore rupees have been received, payment will be made in the farmers' accounts from Monday. The mill is undergoing repairs.
