Room number 4 at KEM to be named after Aruna

Published on:

The KEM Hospital management on Monday announced that it would name the room in ward no 4, where former nurse Aruna Shanbaug was bed-ridden till her death on May 18, after her, even as a senior-most Government doctor rooted for the re-opening of the case involving alleged sexual assault on Aruna by a ward boy nearly 42 years ago.

On a day when nurses at the BMC-run KEM Hospital commemorated the 67th birth anniversary of its former nurse Aruna, Dr Avinash Supe, the dean of the hospital, confirmed the development. The hospital nurses and doctors fondly remembered her and visited her room all through the day to pay tributes to her. They placed flowers on her photograph and cut a cake.

“We have shown to the world that she was part of our family. The selfless service of our nurses has also been appreciated for the manner in which they looked after Aruna for years,” Dr Supe said.
