The first anniversary of the suicide by Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Tuesday will bring together the victims of various atrocities during the present regime including the mother of Najeeb, the missing student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and the family of Mohammed Akhlaq, who was lynched in Dadri and the victims of Una in Gujrat.
As the students of UoH agitating for action against the culprits in Rohith’s suicide case had organised a protest demonstration in the university campus itself tomorrow, various political parties have also organized their own programs to highlight the issue of caste discrimination and victimisation of the weaker sections ever since the NDA Government came to power at the center.
Speaking at one such program organised by the Telangana Congress Committee leaders of various organisations and groups demanded immediate action in the case. Telangana Joint Action Committee convenor Prof Kodandaram said that the university authorities were responsible for driving Rohith Vemula’s suicide. He demanded that the Center should bring Rohith Vemula Act to eradicate caste discrimination on the campuses.
