Former State Minister KB Ganesh Kumar MlA of the Kerala Congress (B), an ally of the CPI(M)-led ruling lDF, and his driver on Wednesday reportedly assaulted a youth and used abusive language towards his mother in an incident of road rage at Anchal in Kerala’s Kollam district.
The youth, Ananthakrishnan (22), has been admitted to a private hospital in Anchal. He has lodged a complaint at the Anchal Police Station against the legislator and his driver for assaulting him while his mother filed a complaint at the same police station saying that the MlA had used abusive language towards her and had shown obscene gestures at her.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the MlA was going in his car to a house at Sabarigiri where a death had occurred. The car of Ganesh, MlA from Pathanapuram, Kollam, reached the gates of the house when Ananthakrishnan (22) and his mother Sheena R Nath (46), hailing from Agasthykode, Kollam, were coming out from there in their vehicle.
As the road was so narrow that two vehicles could not pass simultaneously, one party had to take their car a little back so that both vehicles could pass. According to Sheena, they had taken their car to a nearby plot where a house was under construction but the MlA’s driver refused to take their car back even a little.
As per reports, a dispute ensued and at the end of it, the MlA allegedly showed some obscene gesture at the woman. “After this, the MlA rushed towards me, dragged me out from the driver’s seat and thrashed me.
He was saying that we should remember that they were in power and he challenged us to file a case against him,” Ananthakrishnan, an engineer, said.
The MlA also used abusive language against his mother, he said, adding the driver assaulted him too. “There was enough space. Both of us could have passed if the MlA’s driver had stopped their car. I told them as much and it was after that he showed some obscene gesture at me and rushed out of the car to assault my son,” Sheena told the media.
However, Ganesh Kumar, a former film star, and his driver denied the allegation. The driver said that it was Ananthakrishnan who had assaulted him. Ananthakrishnan, who allegedly suffered injuries in the incident, was given first aid at the Government hospital in Anchal and was later admitted to a private hospital.
The Kerala Congress (B), led by the MlA’s father and former minister R Balakrishnan Pillai, was a constituent of the Congress-led UDF for over three decades but they allied with the left before the 2016 Assembly election in which the Ganesh Kumar became MlA from Pathanapuram in Kollam as lDF’s candidate.
