As promised by Northern Command Army Comma-nder lt-Gen DS Hooda, the crucial road link to Srinagar via leh was thrown open by the Army engineers and team of BRO personnel on Tuesday providing much relief to the rescue workers to rush essential supplies via the axis faster.

The team of engineers was working overtime in inhospitable conditions to clear the roadblocks and throw open the link to allow smooth movement of ration supplies and other essential commodities needed immediately in the flood-hit areas of Kashmir. The road link with the Valley was snapped due to heavy rainfall in the region.

After launching rescue missions, the Army had diverted its men and machinery to throw open the blocked road links in order to rush essential supplies. Work along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and in Poonch is also going on war footing to restore the road links. “The connectivity will be a major boost for the ongoing relief operations being undertaken by the Army in the Kashmir Valley,” PRO Defence, Jammu, lt Col Manish Mehta said.

He said the Army would soon begin mobilising the existing stocks in leh to provide essential supplies to the beleaguered Valley. The urgent requirement of food, water and medicines will be moved from the Army holdings in ladakh while additional stocks are being inducted via Manali to provide relief to the people in the Kashmir Valley.
