RlD waiting for 'yes' from SP for alliance

The leaders of Rashtriya lok Dal are still waiting for an official communication from Samajwadi Party for forging an alliance with like-minded parties for the coming Assembly election.

A senior RlD leader told The Pioneer here on Monday that Chaudhry Ajit Singh took part in November 5 silver jubilee function of Samajwadi Party and advocated for united front. “Chaudhry sahib said from the stage that Mulayam Singh Yadav should take a lead but the party is still to hear anything from Samajwadi Party,” he said.

He said Chaudhry sahib has communicated to the State leaders that there was no talk of forming an alliance. “There was just an invite to attend the function-nothing less nothing more,” he said.

RlD which is looking for the lost political ground in UP, initially wanted to have a truck with BJP because of sway this saffron party holds over Jats in western Uttar Pradesh.

The party is mired in confusion because till date it has criticised Samajwadi Party for non-payment of came dues and prevailing goonda raj in the State. Party leaders fear that if RlD forges an alliance with SP the Jats will switch over to BJP.

“This would be a piquant situation for us. If BJP emerges stronger in western Uttar Pradesh the Muslims will align with BSP because it holds sway among the Jatavs. Samajwadi Party’s anti-incumbency factor will be passed on to its allies and this will prove detrimental for the party,” the leader said.

He said Chaudhry sahib will have to take the final call. Hope he will take a right decision, he said.
