With RJD chief lalu Prasad seriously engaging himself in the installation of Hemant Soren as Chief Minister and also joining the Government for the first time since creation of Jharkhand, the party wants the new dispensation to define the domicile policy at the earliest and settle the issue once and for all.
RJD legislative Body leader Annapurna Devi, set to be a minister in the Hemant Soren government, in an interview with the Pioneer said that they have got a short time to resolve several serious issues facing the State. “So, we would like the new government to define the locals’ policy and set a cut-off date under which everybody residing in the State gets justice,” she maintained.
The RJD, which has mainly non-tribals and Muslims as its vote base, mostly in the constituencies bordering Bihar, said that former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi had created a huge social unrest by raking up the issue in a wrong perspective. “We would like the Government to make all sections of people sit across the table and settle the issue with consensus. This should not be raked up by vested interest groups time and again,” Annapurna, a four-term MlA from Koderma, said.
At least two Independent MlAs - Bandhu Tirkey and Chamra linda - have also placed formulation of the domicile policy as one of the conditions for extending the support.
