The RJD leader and former Minister Vijay Krishna along with his son and two aides were awarded life imprisonment by a local court on Wednesday in the sensational Satyendra Singh murder case. The court also imposed penalty on the RJD leader and three other convicts.

The court of Additional District Judge Nand Kumar Shrivastva which had earlier found all the four accused guilty in the murder case, awarded life term to all of them. The court also imposed a penalty of `30,000 on former Minister and MP Vijay Krishna and `35,000 on his son Chanakya Krishna. The two aides Gagan and Umesh Singh too were awarded penalty of `6,000 each in the case.

Earlier, the court had reserved its order for announcing quantum of punishment on Wednesday. The RJD leader and party general secretary Vijay Krishna, his son and two other aides were present in the court when the quantum of punishment was pronounced against them.

However, the public prosecutor Jaiprakash Singh had pleaded for death sentence to all the four accused. Transporter and then JD(U) leader Satyendra Singh’s wife luxmi Singh too had hoped for death sentence to all the accused persons.

Satyendra Singh who was a close confidant of Vijay Krishna was killed in Patna on May 23, 2009 and his body was thrown in the Ganga river. It was later fished out by the police after calling Navy divers for the job.

Krishna who once was closely associated with veteran socialist leader Jayprakash Narayan had registered his first landmark political presence when he defeated then Union Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar from Barh lok Sabha constituency in 2004 Parliamentary poll.
