RJD-JD(U) pact not a challenge: BJP

Published on:

A day after RJD chief lalu Prasad called for unity of all parties connected with ‘Mandal’ concept of social justice and hinted possible alliance with the JD(U) in next State Assembly polls, the BJP on Sunday declared there was no challenge from such political tie-up.

The JD(U) legislators too met on Sunday to mull over the emerging political situation in the State while lalu lobbed another political call demanding 60 per cent reservation for extremely backward class people in Government tenders.

“There is no challenge to us as earlier they have fought together and there is a tacit understanding between them,” said senior State BJP leader Sushil Modi. Modi also added that both the parties — the RJD and the JD(U) — along with Congress had fought the last lok Sabha elections together but could manage only six seats in the State.

He also wondered that Nitish Kumar had got the mandate against lalu’s jungle raj but for his political existence he finally joined hands with lalu. “People of this State are watching all this and they do not want return of lalu raj and complete lawlessness in the State anymore,” said Modi. He also alleged that now Nitish  did not have any morality left in him and this alliance for which they have been working ever since their complete rout in the general elections were nothing but to ‘counter BJP’.

“But, the BJP is not perturbed at all with this (un)holy alliance as the people of Bihar now has made up its mind to give a chance to the BJP along with its alliance partners lJP and RlSP in the State to serve them,” Modi said emphatically.

Earlier on Saturday, RJD chief lalu, while addressing party leaders and workers at Vaishali, had said that now time has come for the parties connected with the ‘Mandal’ concept of social justice to unite in present political scenario.

“The Mandal Commission is a bomb which RJD workers should be ready to ignite. Politics in Bihar had taken a sharp turn in the ’90s after implementation of Mandal commission report providing reservation for OBCs in Government jobs,” he reminded his party workers and leaders apparently to forge a new alliance into State politics.

He further said that there was a need for change and they had to think about it. “We’ll have to take everybody along,” said lalu throwing possible hint of electoral tie-up with the JD(U) in the next State Assembly polls.

Recently, the RJD along with the Congress had voted for the Jitan Ram Manjhi Government on the confidence motion on May 23 and even bailed out an embattled JD(U) in the bypoll for two Rajya Sabha seats last month.

“If the vote-share of both the RJD and JD(U) in the recent parliamentary polls in the State is combined, it will go up to 45 per cent which will be enough to counter the BJP with just 39 per cent of votes,” explained lalu throwing strong indication for an RJD-JD(U) alliance in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
