Revolt against lalu, Nitish in their parties

Mulayam Singh Yadav is not the only regional satrap facing rebel like situation in the party, his peers like lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar have also faced a similar situation. If the Samajwadi Party supremo through his brother and UP president of the party Shivpal Yadav is targeting close confidents of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav causing resentment among junior Yadav, in Bihar, the RJD chief and the Chief Minister are facing different kind of “rebellion” by the party workers.

The RJD workers in Siwan and Gopalganj districts, all supporters of former Siwan MP Mohammad Shahabuddin held a meeting and passed a resolution ousting lalu Prasad from the party.

The news may surprise all and sundry and hardly anyone would believe it but it happened in Gopalganj on Sunday. The supporters of Shahabuddin formed a body Shahabuddin Mukti Andolan to launch campaign against re-arrest of the RJD strongman. They are quite unhappy over the developments and what pained them the most is the silence of lalu on Shahabuddin’s cancellation of bail by the Supreme Court. “lalu is involved in the conspiracy to challenge the bail in the Supreme Court and he is responsible for his arrest,” said one of the rebels.

The RJD leaders are keeping a stoic silence over this report terming it a “joke” but Bihar RJD president Ram Chandra Purbe admitted such a meeting was held. Talking to The Pioneer Purbe even revealed that the ranks and file of Siwan RJD vowed to resign en bloc from the party in protest. “In Siwan entire politics revolves around Shahabuddin and the partymen follow him. I have spoken to the District president of RJD and asked him to convince the partymen that even the Government cannot do anything in court matter,” Purbe said on Monday.

The Shahabuddin Mukti Andolan accused lalu of forgetting the sacrifices the ex-MP made for him and the party and as a result the party has lost its mass following and ground support. The fuming supporters brought a resolution to show lalu the door and it was passed unanimously without a single voice of dissent.

CM Nitish Kumar last fortnight faced a similar situation in the party thought it had nothing to do with Shahabuddin. At least four State’s president of the JD(U) raised a voice of revolt against Nitish over his elevation as national president of the party. The rebellion was, however, nipped in the bud as he dismissed all of them. They included presidents of Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Uttrakhand.

The party alleged that they were involved in brazen irregularities in organisational matters particularly the membership drive. “Their Opposition of Nitish was ridiculous. All of them were present when Nitish was unanimously elected national president then why they remained dumb. Whosoever wants to go is free to go,” said JD(U) spokesman Neeraj Kumar.
