Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday appealed to the teachers, guardians and citizens of the society to revive India's glorious guru-shishya tradition of teaching, necessary to educate as well as inculcate culture, good manners and etiquette among the next generation. Initiating the three-day annual school enrollment drive in Surat, Rupani said that teachers have the capacity to make students achievers. The Chief Minister presented educational kits and toys to fresh batch of students and felicitated bright students of the previous batches. Thanking those who helped schools, Rupani said that the Government has allocated Rs2,500-crore budget to make 2,500 smart digital classrooms in
select schools across the State. Giving the background of Shala Praveshotsav or school enrollment drive, the Chief Minister said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who urged parents to educate every girl child in the
State when he was the Gujarat Chief Minister. The objective of the drive is to ensure that students from Government schools could face global challenges in life and compete with others, he said adding that the State Government took up the initiative as a celebration. During the function, students performed yoga and planted saplings in an educational institute.
