Retired Army jawan holds family hostage in Etah dist

Panic gripped Kotwali area of Etah district, when a retired Army jawan held his own family members hostage at his residence and started firing in the air intermittently since Monday evening.

The former jawan kept on mumbling “Pakistan ne hamla kar diya hai. Mai tum sab ko bachaunga” (Pakistan has attacked, I will save you all) and also told the same thing to local police, who contacted him through his kin to convince him to stop firing and release the family.

As per reports, Awadesh of lane No-4 in Yadav Nagar area (Agra-Bareilly highway) of Kotwali Etah held half a dozen of his family members hostage inside the house and started firing with his licensed rifle. The local administration claimed that he had fired over 20 rounds so far.

Officers said that they sought help from his relatives to convince Awadesh over cellphone to come out and release his family but he got stuck on his premise of Pakistan attacking the country.

The cops also assured that he and his family were safe and that no attack was reported but he refused to budge. Awadesh was presently working as a security guard in New Delhi and had recently returned home.
